A Little About Jess

Born and raised in Northern California, Jess Johnson earned her bachelor's degree in Journalism from Howard University. Her book club fiction / upmarket fiction novel, JOY COMES IN THE MOURNING, is now available!

In her free time, Jess enjoys biking around her Los Angeles neighborhood and trying new restaurants.

​

Jess is a member of the Women's Fiction Writers Association and the Women's National Book Association, Los Angeles chapter. Jess founded a writers' group called W.I.C.K'D in 2025 with author Shivani Jai.

 

​JOY COMES IN THE MOURNING was workshopped at the Yale Writers' Workshop in June of 2025.
